When Friends of the Children – Stockton Friend Tyerell Sturges-Cofer began working with Timmy* and his brother, the family was going through a difficult transition. The boys had missed several days of preschool, and their mother, feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to navigate new routines, needed support she could trust.

Tyerell stepped in with patience and consistency. He reassured her that he would personally help the boys get to school safely and began driving them two days a week. Within only a few weeks, their attendance stabilized, and the family started to feel a renewed sense of comfort and connection.

During this same time, Tyerell discovered that Timmy*, who comes from a Spanish-speaking household, was eager to learn. Through music, play, and encouragement, Tyerell helped him learn his English ABCs in just three weeks, a milestone that amazed both the preschool staff and his family.

The preschool even invited Tyerell to lead circle time, where his warmth and creativity spread joy to the entire classroom. His presence didn't just support one child; it lifted the environment around him.
